Project:

Queer Balkans is a documentary film project focused on portraying aspects of LGBTI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersexual) life in the Balkans. We travelled to Prishtina, Skopje, Belgrade and Kragujevac where we interviewed members of the LGBTI community, but also activists, lawyers and politicians on current issues surrounding LGBTI life. We found that many of the underlying issues the community faces are based on deeply rooted discrimination, which constitutes many of the scars LGBTIs carry with them. Through our two-week journey, our main discovery was that there is a vibrant scene and a large group of people who are not going to be stopped by society. We saw that there is political will and that there are dozens of activists who tirelessly work on educating the general population and making LGBTI lives easier. Queer Balkans is here to tell their stories.
