Discovering Identity: the Borderline
Photo Exhibition| 27.07.2017 | 18:00 - 21:00 | Haus der Demokratie und Menschenrechte
The photo exhibition "Discovering Identity" portrays the reality on the border between Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia and takes a look at the still smouldering conflicts in the area. The region has only managed to do be in recent years as an EU external border and part of the escape route through South-Eastern Europe.
Thus, it looks like that both countries cultivate good political relations and cooperation with each other. The mutual rivalries and attributions, which are the cause of historical conflicts and territorial claims, are less well-known. Macedonia's possible accession to the EU will make these and other controversial questions a whole new dimension.
This group of international students from the Freie Universität Berlin, did a research project about the respective perceptions of identities in the Bulgarian-Macedonian border region. They visited a total of ten places on both sides of the border and interviewed different people, who talked about the life in the borderline region.
The photos and interviews will be presented in the exhibition "Discovering Identity" in several languages. The group is happy to invite you to the exhibition in Haus der Demokratie und Menschenrechte!
Join them and be a part of this unique experience of the borderline!
