Abstract

This lecture series is offered by both OEI and international researchers with a focus on Eastern Europe, Russia and Eurasia. The role of voluntary and involuntary human mobility within and across state borders is coupled with the role of political regimes, social orders and cultural landscapes in Eurasia. Diversity and labor, migration and development as well as the imprint of refugees in their host economies and societies are discussed across several disciplinary dimensions. Yet, interactions between mobility and order in the region occur in a time of reshaping the existing political, economic and cultural world order. This reshaping is driven by the deepening of the Russian-Chinese partnership, Russia’s attempts to secure its zones of influence, economic nationalism, and the weakening influence of the “West”. Therefore, we also invite lectures that connect the regional focus to the emerging logic of geopolitics and geoeconomics and the construction of alternative institutions that influence both –- mobility and order.
