Maria Sakaeva is a quest researcher at Osteuropa Institute. She is a DAAD fellow for Winter Semester 2017. She has a Master degree at European University at Saint-Petersburg (valid by University of Helsinki) and has finished her doctorate degree (candidate of science) at National Research University Higher School of Economics in Moscow. Her dissertation was about economic sociology and sociology of entrepreneurship  in contemporary Russia.

Reserach interests focus on small entrepreneurship, informality and social capital, Post-Soviet markets and capitalism, state-business relations.
