Application process
The application modalities for the master program depend on whether you have obtained your first professional degree (usually a bachelor degree) in Germany.
Education Nationals
If you have obtained your first degree within Germany, apply via the online application of Freie Universität Berlin. To do so, please fill out the online application form on the application portal. All application documents must be uploaded exclusively on the portal. Further information for applications with a German university degree can be found here.
Education Foreigners
In general, prospective students with a foreign university degree must apply for a VPD (Vorprüfungsdokumentation, preliminary review documentation) at uni-assist and then use this document to apply for a master’s program at Freie Universität Berlin within the application deadlines using the FU application portal. Freie Universität Berlin only accepts applications, that are received via the application portal of Freie Universität Berlin and contain a valid VPD which is issued for Freie Universität Berlin.
For the summer term 2026, there will be a change in the application procedure for applicants with foreign qualifications. Freie Universität Berlin is now a VPD university. You can find updated information on the new procedure right here. General information on VPD (preliminary review documentation) can be found at uni-assist. Please check all the information carefully here.
Your application must include:
- the completed application form for admission to the master program Economic Systems.
- the proof of previous university degrees.
- proof of English skills (level C1 CEFR).
The application documents must be submitted in full to Freie Universität Berlin's admission office by the application deadline.
Fees
Students do not pay any tuition fees, the university only charges semester fees and contributions each semester.
