Scholarships for study and internship abroad

Please note: In the following section, a short list of potential scholarships can be found. Not all scholarships can be awarded to every student though. Some depend on the nationality of the applicant. Others are bound to other specific conditions. Please check the respective websites for further information regarding the selection process.

The DAAD awards short-term scholarships for internships within the framework of study programmes related to foreign countries. The programme aims to provide German students with a specialist internship abroad worldwide. Another DAAD programme includes short-term scholarships for internships found by students themselves in international organisations or for internships in German missions abroad (embassies, consulates). The offer is aimed at German students who have procured an internship in an international organisation or a German mission abroad on their own initiative. The IJP - International Journalist Programmes - awards 2-month scholarships for internships in the journalistic field. For the eleventh time in 2011, the International Journalists Programs will announce their scholarship program for Eastern Europe. The exchange countries are expected to be Poland, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Further information can be found at www.ijp.org/doenhoff.html .

The EU supports stays abroad by students within the framework of the ERASMUS programme - which is part of the SOCRATES education programme. Information is available at the international offices of the universities. FU students can send their enquiries to info-service@fu-berlin.de .

The Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung und Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes scholarship program for metropolises in Eastern Europe finances studies abroad, language courses and internships. Further information can be found at: www.studienstiftung.de/stipendienprogramme.html

The Association for Student Exchange in Central and Eastern Europe (GFPS e. V.) finances a stay abroad in one of the four countries for German, Polish, Czech and now also Belarusian students. Current announcements of scholarships and language courses at: www.gfps.org

Alfred Toepfer Scholarships are aimed at students and doctoral candidates from Central and Eastern Europe who are preparing to complete their studies in Germany and at German students and doctoral candidates who are planning a one-year study visit to Central or Eastern Europe. Eidam und Partner awards a scholarship of up to six months per semester to 15 German students (Master and BA studies) for internships abroad or semesters abroad. Further information can be found at: www.eidam-und-partner.de/stipendium.php

The Heinz Schwarzkopf Foundation awards travel scholarships to give young people the opportunity to explore neighbouring European countries on a study trip and to engage with current political and cultural developments in Europe. At www.stipendienlotse.de a comprehensive nationwide scholarship database has been made available. This is a continuously operated database with which students and young academics can search for the scholarship that suits them best. At the same time, all private and public funding institutions have the opportunity to present themselves on the platform.
