Prof. Dr. Sabine Kropp verfasste ihre Dissertation über Dezentralisierungsprozesse im russi-schen Mehrebenensystem während der Transformationsphase im Rahmen eines von ihr durchgeführten VW-Projekts am Beispiel der kommunalen und regionalen Haushaltspolitik. Sie leitete zuletzt ein von der Metro-Stiftung finanziertes Projekt, in dem Muster von Governance auf der Grundlage eines Fallstudiendesigns mit mehr als 100 leitfadengestützten Interviews, teilnehmender Beobachtung und Dokumentenanalysen auf regionaler Ebene untersucht wurden. Ein besonderes Augenmerk galt dabei der Rolle von NGOs und von Unternehmen in Governance-Netzwerken. Sie war gleichzeitig Mitglied eines internationalen Forschernetzwerks, das vom Norwegian Research Council finanziert wurde (2013-2016) und ebenfalls Governance-Netzwerke in russischen Regionen und verschiedenen Politikfeldern untersuchte. Ihre Arbeitsschwerpunkte umfassen v.a. Themen der vergleichenden Föderalismus- und Parlamentsforschung sowie verwaltungspolitologische Fragestellungen, die sie sowohl auf westliche Demokratien wie auch auf postsozialistische Systeme bezieht.
