Sofiya Onufriv has been working as a freelance conference interpreter for German/Ukrainian in Germany, Austria and Switzerland since 2010. She studied German language and literature and editing in Lviv, Ukraine. After moving to Germany in 2008, she successfully passed examinations at the Saxon Education Agency in 2010/11 to determine her professional qualification to translate languages for judicial and official purposes and was sworn and authorised by the Berlin Regional Court in 2011. Since 2013, she has interpreted at several events as well as seminars in the fields of politics, education, business, culture, civil society and others. From 2014 to 2018 she had interpreted multi-week seminars (between 2 and 5 weeks) for Ukrainian officials organised by the European Academy Berlin. She is a regular interpreter for the Kyiv Talks project and interprets for all political foundations based in Berlin as well as other institutions. She is also a regular interpreter for the Ukrainian writer Serhij Zhadan and interpreted for Ukrainian authors at the Leipzig Book Fair from 2012 to 2014. As a sideline, she works as a tour guide for the Berlin tour operator Ex Oriente Lux Reisen, for whom she has designed trips to the forest Carpathians and Kharkiv. She translates literary texts from German into Ukrainian and from Ukrainian into German. Most recently, together with Claudia Dathe, she translated Stanislaw Assejew's book into German. She is a member of the translators' association translit e.V.
