Voices from Inside - Reflections on Militancy and Talibanization in the Pashto Poetry of Swat

The district of Swat is located in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. For centuries Swat has been a center of the development of Pashto literature. In the 1990s Swat got under the influence of the war in Afghanistan. Later on the valley gained ambiguous fame through some horrid activities of the Taliban in this region. In his presentation Muhammad Ali Dinakhel analyzes how the general militarization of Swat and the actions of the Taliban in particular are reflected in Pashto literature. He introduces Pashto folklore as well as Pashto poetry and to a certain extent also Pashto prose written by authors from Swat that deal with these subjects.
