Dr Tetiana Kostiuchenko has been working on her book project “Social capital in the disrupted society” (SoCaRDS) since August 2025 till July 2027 within MSCA4Ukraine fellowship. She aims to reveal how relational patterns challenged by political and economic turbulences, cultural transformations, military conflicts, or migration processes are transformed, focusing on nowadays Ukraine. This research project continues Tetiana’s interest in exploring the network structures formation and evolutions along with the effects of these structures on various outcomes (e.g. resilience). The social capital as a network resource is structurally embedded into the regular interactions of people; it provides individuals, groups, and communities with the access to different material and non-material resources, from finances and property to emotional support and information flows. This provokes the general question of this research project: to what extent our social capital can assist us in forming resilience on individual and community levels? This research project aims to cover the knowledge gap with (1) combining empirically innovative network approach in measuring social capital on micro- (individual), meso- (community) and macro- (society) levels, (2) assessing how the changing network structures of social capital affects the resilience of individual and community, and thus (3) suggesting a theory of social capital in developing networked resilience in the wartime society, thus complementing the existing research on social capital in stable societies. The empirical component of the research is based on the mixed methods combining the quantitative and qualitative network data from various sources.
