Macedonia and Moldova: A Comparative Approach towards the Study of the Political Function of Folklore in the Nation- Building Processes

Ermis Lafazanovski – 2009

Through the examples of certain cultural/historical segments of the nation-building processes in Macedonia and Moldova, this article aims to demonstrate said processes as part of a general nation-building mechanism in Southeastern Europe. A special emphasis is placed on folklore, as a less documented but a predominant tool in the hands not only of nationalists but the centres of power as well, in realizing their concepts of nation and state.
