Alphabetical catalogs (in open stacks [Freihandmagazin])

All literature titles acquired since the year 2000 are listed in the university library's Primo library portal. The main alphabetical catalog contains the complete holdings and records for the following collections acquired up to 1999:

  • East European History and Contemporary History (G and ZG)

  • Southeast European History (SG)

  • Art in Eastern Europe (K)

  • Area Studies of Eastern Europe (L)

  • East European Sociology and Philosophy (SZ)

  • Economy in Eastern Europe (W)

  • East European Law (R)

  • Balkan Studies (BK)

  • Education in Eastern Europe (P)

The older collection of the Balkan Studies department is listed in a separate alphabetical catalog. An alphabetical journal catalog is available for journals and serials.

Subject catalogs

For subject catalogs, systematic catalogs of the individual departments are available.

General reading room collections (lower floor open stacks [UG Freihandmagazin])

The general reading room collection includes important encyclopedias, other reference works, handbooks, compendiums, etc. The bilingual dictionaries and the temporary and permanent reference collections set up for seminars and courses [Handapparate] are located in the information area.

Journals and newspapers

The OEI journals are located in the journal reading room and in the open stacks.

The issues of the current OEI journals from the year 2000 onwards are arranged alphabetically by title and are located separately in the journal reading room of the Social Sciences Library (Otto-Suhr-Institut, Ihnestr. 21). Older issues of the current titles, like all other discontinued Eastern Europe journals, can be found under their respective call numbers unchanged in the open stacks at Garystr. 55. The call numbers must still be found in the card catalog. We are happy to help you with any questions or assistance you may need.

List of the library's journal collection (as of 2014)

Due to the spatial merger of the monographic collections of the libraries of the Otto Suhr Institute and the Institutes for Sociology, Ethnology, and Journalism with the collection of the Institute for East European Studies, the collection of the Institute for East European Studies, with the exception of the reading room collections, wall maps, and atlases, has been moved to the upper floor of the open stacks. The monographic collections of the new libraries are now in the lower-floor stacks. The reading room collections of the OEI are also now in the lower-floor stacks.
