Polish and Jewish history are connected to each other over a long period. For centuries Poles and Jews used to live side by side. But how is the perception of Jews and Jewish narratives in the Polish official historiography? In the opening presentation of the Polish- German Conference for young professionals of Jewish Studies Dr Edyta Gawron will discuss the history and historiography of Poland in the past and its possible future, concerning the role of Jews in culture and society. Dr Edyta Gawron is Assistent Professor at the Department for Jewish Studies, Jagiellonian University in Krakow, and the head of the new Centre of the Study of the History and Culture of the Krakow Jews. She is a specialist in 20th century history of Polish Jews, Holocaust studies and post-Holocaust Jewish Diaspora."
