Deadlines for applications
The Master's degree program for Eastern European Studies starts each winter semester for first-year students. The application period is from 15 April to 31 May.
Students in higher semesters may apply from 01 July to 15 August for the winter semester and from 01 January to 15 February for the summer semester.
The access clause in access statute (in German) applies.
Applications for the winter semester 2018/2019
Applications may be submitted from 15 April to 31 May 2018. Applicants who have completed their studies abroad will apply via uni-assist, while the rest will apply via the online application of the Freie Universität Berlin. More detailed information can be found on the Master's homepage of the FUB.
The admission requirements for the Master's degree program in Eastern Europe are as follows:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree with a share of at least 60 ECTS in political science, sociology, economics, history or cultural studies. Should these ECTS be dispersed among the abovementioned disciplines, at least 40 ECTS must be completed in a single discipline.
- Knowledge of the English language at Level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Please note that the proof of six years of schooling is English language teaching or proof of equivalent language examinations for the B2 degree required for your application. Recognized equivalent qualifications are: IELTS 5.0; Cambridge Examinations: First Certificate (FCE); Advanced (CAE), Proficiency (CPE)
- Candidates who are not native speakers of German and who have completed their studies at a foreign university are required to prove their knowledge of German. This may be due to the existence of the German Language Examination for Higher Education (DSH) or by proof of an equivalent level of knowledge.
